Base:
We survey the area to determine the desire grade of the patio and the amount of excavating needed. We excavate and compact the area to allow for 9 inches of compacted processed gravel and 1 inch of washed concrete sand as a base for the pavers. The compacted gravel base must be pitched for the desired run off and graded until perfectly smooth, and even the finished paved surface will mimic the surface of the gravel base. We can accomplish this precise grading with sophisticated laser leveling equipment.
Bedding Course:
When the base is done and the area is properly pitched, we place two 1” PVC pipes on the base about 4’ apart from each other, then place washed concrete sand between the pipes and repeatedly spread washed concrete sand out with a screed bar resting along the top of the pipes. This is called screeding. When the screed is done and the top of the washed concrete sand is even, we remove the pipes. We normally do not screed the entire area at once.
Paving Installation:
We chose a starting point and begin placing the pavers on the bed of the washed concrete sand in the desired pattern. Paying careful attention that the pattern is square and the seams are tight.
Cutting:
Cutting the pavers is required in most all jobs. The amount of cutting required varies greatly on the pattern you’re installing. Accurate cutting of concrete pavers requires years of experience and expensive specialty cutting equipment. We are equipped with the knowledge and equipment to insure your project comes out just right. For the boader which is a “framing” we cement into place each border stones making for the strongest fit
Final Sweeping:
When the pavers are installed over the entire area and the surrounding soil is in place and compacted. We sweep polymeric sand over the top of the area sweeping in different directions polymeric sand goes into the small seams between pavers. We sweep off the excess polymeric sand and wet down with water, let it dry and repeat. This procedure locks the pavers in place. The polymeric sand prevents weeds and wash outs
Sealers:
There are sealers available to apply to concrete pavers. Although it’s not necessary, the sealers do intensify the colors and help protect pavers from stains.
